Understand why Alfonso Ribeiro, actor who played the character Carlton in the sitcom “Um Maluco no Pedaço”, said that the role ruined his career
In an interview with the Closer Week portal (via Deadline), the actor and dancer Alfonso Ribeirointerpreter of Carlton Banks in the series “Um Maluco no Pedaço”, commented on his period playing the iconic character and how it directly affected his career:
“Playing Carlton in ‘The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air’ became a sacrifice. I always said that playing Carlton was the best and worst thing that ever happened to me. It was one of the best roles I’ve been lucky enough to play. But, it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore.”
Even though he regrets the situation, he also reports how happy and satisfied he is with the direction his career has taken since the end of the series until now, where he currently presents the North American program “Dancing With The Stars”, known as Dança dos Famosos on Brazil.
I’m enjoying being a presenter and I’m very happy with it. But, yes, I would go back to acting if it was exactly the right thing.
