Almost deleted scene
According to the portal, upon seeing the first version of this sequence, Walt I would have been in doubt as to whether it would fit with the refined aesthetic proposed for the film, doubting the potential of the scene and discarding it immediately afterwards. In an interview with Yahoo Movies, Steven VagniniDisney archivist, revealed the studio founder’s reaction:
“Walt wasn’t convinced that this was going to be a very clear scene,” Vagnini said. “As you can imagine, if you have two pets and they eat a plate of spaghetti, it’s hard to imagine that being too cute.”
During the documentary “Lady’s Pedigree: The Making of Lady and the Tramp”, Andy Gaskillart director, states that the scene ended up being saved thanks to the animation director Frank Thomaswho decided not to listen to the Disney and revived the sequence.
“Frank Thomas, one of the company’s greatest animators, went against his bosses’ wishes and put something together anyway. Aren’t we grateful that Frank actually persisted, that he didn’t listen to Walt? He said, ‘No, I’m going to make this work and I’m going to show him. I’m going to show him it’s going to be fun,’” Gaskill revealed.
