Your most extraordinary Cannes moment ?
MC – I remember a rather unusual climb up the stairs. I found myself sandwiched between top model Bianca Balti and Puff Daddy, and strangely felt like a total illegitimate… even though I was the only one of the three who made movies.
VE – My first years in Cannes were quite unusual. I arrived from Brussels, I stayed in a nearby camp, I was not invited to any party, but I resisted the humiliation very much. I thought about those moments two years ago right before I took the stage to kick off ’75e festival edition as Mistress of Ceremonies. I relied on my memories to relieve the pressure, but it didn’t really work…

Have the lines finally changed for women in film? ?
MC – I think Judith Godresh’s speech gave a big boost, but there is still resistance. We must not give up the fight for equality and equity.
With Monia, we immediately discovered common tastes and sensibilities.
Virginia Ephira
VE – We should already know what the debate is about. We are talking about young actresses. Directors tenure or funding? While some things are working better, others still need improvement. It’s interesting to see how women’s voices are accepted over time, reflecting the state of society.
Virginie Efira will be the president of the Cabourg Film Festival jury from June 12 to 16.
