Find out what emotion Riley ended up being excluded from ‘Inside Out 2’ and why she didn’t remain in the script
‘Inside Out 2’ is the sequel to the animated feature film of the same title released in 2015, which was responsible for introducing Riley, an 11-year-old girl who has just moved to a new city, but while trying to adapt to the new accomplished, there is a huge mess going on in the brain’s control room, where your emotions fight for everything to remain in balance.
In the first film, directed by Pete DocterDisney and Pixar present the five emotions that dominate Riley. They are: Joy, represented by the color yellow; Sadness, which is blue; Anger, which appears in a shade of red; Fear, which is purple and Disgust which can be identified by the green color.
Still, with the confirmation of the second title in the franchise, new emotions were also thought to be part of the plot that will follow Riley after celebrating her 13th birthday and the arrival of puberty, including Anxiety (orange), Envy (green water), Embarrassment (pink) and Boredom (dark purple) to tell the story.
However, what some may not imagine is that an emotion thought to be part of the plot of ‘Inside Out 2’ was discarded because it was considered “not fun to watch”.
The discarded emotion of ‘Inside Out 2’
The emotion in question is Shame. The revelation was made by the director Kelsey Mannin a chat with TheWrap (via Screenrant), where the filmmaker said that the character was excluded from the script due to concerns about not overloading the plot.
Furthermore, the decision meets his desire to make the sequel cause the same sensation as the original plot, making the public come back to watch Riley’s emotional adventures whenever possible.
[Vergonha] It wasn’t fun to watch. That wasn’t fun. It was very heavy. You know when you see a good movie and think, ‘Man, that was a great movie.’ Do you want to see it again? ‘No, not really.’ There are films like that. I don’t want to make this movie. I want to make a film that is really meaningful and when people ask me, ‘Do you want to see this film again?’ You say ‘yes!’ Because those are my favorite movies. And those are the types of films I want to make. And I didn’t want to go back to that movie with that character. It’s not that funny.”, explained Mann.
Even though Shame did not remain in history, it is likely that the film will sensitively address emotional themes that involve children and adults, just as ‘Inside Out’ (2015) did, winning over audiences of different ages by addressing the journey of growth and Riley’s self-discovery and the importance of respecting each of the feelings that may arise.
‘Inside Out 2’ is scheduled to premiere on June 14th this month in theaters.
