Short anime format created more than a century ago in Japan has been recovered; see the details!
The archive of an anime, released in 1923, was recovered in Japan, according to NHK. The short was found by the studio Lionwhich revealed to have been made in silent format and titled “Dental Health”. Lasting just 8 and a half minutes, the anime aimed to raise awareness about cavity prevention.
In the video, where NHK comments on what happened, it is possible to observe the frames of the short, where two children appear eating different meals.
Lion studio also revealed that the short is named after Kitayama Seitaroconsidered a reference in the area and one of the precursors of anime.
During the video, made available by NHK World Japan, it is said that Kitayama founded an animation company, where he promoted some of the industry’s leading artists in the early 20th century. Kitayama, Yasuda Takeshisays that the font used in the short resembles his grandfather’s handwriting.
Experts say that only a few films from that era have survived to this day, so this discovery will greatly help our understanding of anime in ancient times.
