Korean government to investigate BTS chart manipulation allegations

HYBE was accused of manipulating the graphics of BTS’s album ‘The Most Beautiful Moment In Life’, released in 2015; understand the case!

After accusations that the BTS was the target of chart manipulation by the HYBE administration, the South Korean government will investigate the case. The information was confirmed through an official statement from the authorities, where it was revealed that a petition was sent requesting the investigation of the reported information, as reported by the Koreaboo portal.

CHARGES?

This is because, at the end of April, accusations of “sajaegi marketing”, a term that can be translated to something like, “illegal marketing” gained traction on social media when they stated that HYBE manipulated the graphics for BTS’ mini-album, ‘ The Most Beautiful Moment In Life’, released in 2015.

The accusation was made through alleged court documents that stated that a former HYBE employee, who was personally involved in the album’s controversial marketing strategies, was sentenced to a year in prison after blackmailing the conglomerate financially in order to keep keep HYBE confidential information secret.

In addition to alleged illegal marketing strategies, the group also became the target of speculation about the theft of a creative concept for concept photos of the same album, as well as involvement with a religious cult called Dhan World.

Given the accusations, internet users began to demand an investigation into the marketing practices adopted by record companies towards artists from the HYBE conglomerate, as well as other K-pop groups, giving rise to the investigation announced by the South Korean government.

Furthermore, BTS fans (ARMY) organized protests in order to question HYBE’s management of the group’s career, sending trucks with LED screens, flower crowns, and even a statement, published in the local press, with the intention of pressure the company to take effective initiatives to protect BTS’s rights.
