However, what few know is that some of these classic plots ended up getting sequels that, unfortunately, were not as successful as the original animation, and are not as well known by the public.

1. The Little Mermaid 2: Return to the Sea (2000)

Many people don’t know, but The Little Mermaid has a second film where the protagonist is Ariel and Eric’s daughter, Melody. In the film, the child is prohibited from going near the sea due to a threat made by Morgana, sister of the villain Ursula. However, on her 12th birthday, Melody decides to go on an adventure to discover the truth about her family’s history, where Ariel needs to return to being a mermaid to save her daughter’s life.


2. Aladdin and the 40 Thieves (1996)

The story of Aladdin and Jasmine didn’t just get one sequel, but two! Aladdin and the 40 Thieves is the third film in the franchise, and is the production responsible for introducing us to Aladdin’s father for the first time. In production, the protagonist will need to team up again with the Genie to save the life of the man who is in danger.


3. The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata (2004)

The Lion King is also one of the franchises that has had more than one sequel. However, The Lion King 3: Hakuna Matata presents the events before those of the first films. In it, we can discover a little more about the story of Timon and Pumbaa, and the entire trajectory of both characters until they met, became friends and found Simba.


4. Pocahontas 2: A Journey to the New World (1998)

Pocahontas is another film that got a sequel, but almost no one knows about it. In it, the American Indian travels to England with the intention of preventing the English from declaring war against her people.


5. Mulan 2: The Legend Continues (2004)

In Mulan 2, the heroine from China and her fiancé are summoned again by the Emperor for another mission. This time, they need to take the three princesses safely to the neighboring kingdom to get married in a form of union between the peoples.
