ADVICE – Although it’s best to avoid them, couple arguments can sometimes be difficult to control in the presence of children. In this case, some precautions should be taken in order not to weaken them.
A typical scene. The whole family is in the car: parents in front, children in the back. It is impossible for adults to agree on a route. In that case, a few passive-aggressive reprimands are enough to raise the tone. And now the children helplessly watch the argument of a couple. “In addition to retreating from whatever may have caused the rift, they will fear the separation of their parents,” comments Nicolas Peraldi, a clinical psychologist and psychoanalyst in Nantes. This is one of the reasons why he advises, ideally, to avoid any conflict in the presence of children. And if that’s not possible, at least take these few precautions.
No more arguing about them
