Asked People For the magazine’s 50th anniversary, American tennis legend Serena Williams has revealed the fun questions her daughter asked about her fame.
Before the magazine People celebrates its 50th anniversary, some of the most famous faces of the moment took part in a commemorative interview game to mark the occasion. Among the latter, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman, Drew Barrymore and Serena Williams. In addition to the beginning of her career and her first articles in the press, the tennis player also talked about her projects and her role as a mother.
“Being a good mother is my priority”
“The list of things I still have to do is very long. It is even infinite,” he reveals in the magazine’s columns. “Currently, I really want to develop as an entrepreneur, which has been the case for 25 years (…). But from now on, I’m more focused on growing my own brand (…) and my collaboration with different business creators as a venture capitalist,” explains the six-time Wimbledon champion. But despite this never-ending “to-do list,” her priority remains her role as a mother. “Being a good mother is very important to me,” she admits.
“How do they know your name?”
In this context, to the sometimes confusing questions that every child asks their parents, the mother of Olympia (6 years old) and mother of Adira River (8 months) must regularly add questions about her popularity. “Olympia is now at the age where she tells me: “Look, I wonder why you’re so famous… (people, editor’s note) do they know your name?’ Explaining that she wants to offer her children a “normal life”, which ensures that she lives in a very quiet neighborhood and is reserved in nature, she then tries to minimize her popularity with her eldest daughter. “The last time I told him. “You know, mom is a little famous.” He answered: “No, you’re very, very famous. You are a great tennis player,” he says with a smile. For a little girl, discovering her mother’s international fame seems as surprising as it is fun. As proof, Serena Williams admits that she recently explained to herself that she was pregnant with him at the time of her 2017 Australian Open victory. “He was very surprised,” she recalled.
