Find out which are the only two Disney princesses who don’t sing in their stories
In 1937, Disney released its first princess film. “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs”, in addition to starting one of the most popular and profitable franchises ever launched by the studio, also made history by becoming cinema’s first animated feature film.
Since then, the company founded by Walt Disney he replicated some of the formulas applied in “Snow White” in the new princess films, so that the new works were also hugely successful, just like the first animation — and this idea could not have worked more well.
Music is one of the important points of productions, being responsible for setting the right mood for the scene, as well as drawing more attention from the audience, and allowing people to identify with the characters.
In the princess franchise, many protagonists sang memorable tracks, loved by fans to this day, such as “Minha Aldeia”, from “Beauty and the Beast”, “Once Upon a Time in the Dream”, from “Sleeping Beauty”, “Imagem” , from “Mulan”, “Part of Your World”, from “The Little Mermaid”, among others.
However, there are two princesses who, unlike the other characters, do not sing at any point in their stories: Merida, from the Pixar animation “Brave”, and Raya, from “Raya and the Last Dragon”.
In both films, despite having iconic songs in their soundtracks, such as “O Céu Eu Vou Tocar” and “Lead The Way”, during the plot, it is not possible to see the protagonists participating in duets or solos, as happens in other works about princesses.
“Brave” presents the story of Princess Merida, a girl who spends her life being mentored and who needs to win over a gentleman during the archery tournament to become queen. However, the young woman decides to break the rules and follow her own path, defying an old tradition.
In “Raya and the Last Dragon” we meet Raya, a lone warrior from Kumandra who will need to go in search of the legendary last dragon to restore the shattered land and save her divided people.
