When will ‘Moana 2’ take place?

In February this year, Disney confirmed that “Moana — A Sea of ​​Adventures”, a 2016 animation, will get its first sequel through a film that is scheduled to hit theaters in 2024, as the plot begins showing on November 27th.

The new adventure will follow the daughter of the chief of a community of the Motonui ethnic group from Polynesia, who gives the film its title, rowing her sailboat to the distant seas of Oceania, where dangerous and long-lost waters will take her to meet people beyond from the shores of his native island.

But she won’t travel alone! To fulfill an unexpected call from her ancestors, she will be joined by the demigod Maui and a new crew of sailors whose identities have not yet been revealed by Disney.

But, when will ‘Moana 2’ take place?

According to The Walt Disney Company, the sequel to “Moana” will be set three years after the character’s first trip to the sea, where she sails for days on end with the intention of returning the Heart of Te Fiti, which had long been stolen. by the demigod Maui, and save his village.

However, even though it is known how long the plot is from the first story, the time in which the story takes place is a little more difficult to unravel.

This is because the plots starring princesses from Mickey’s House have a period in which the events are situated exposed through the characters’ clothing and even through decorative objects that color the scenes, as happens with “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves”, where fans estimate that the narrative is set somewhere between the years 1500 and 1550, in Germany.

In the case of the animation that presents the adventures of Moana, it is known that the fictional island of Motunui has inspirations from Polynesia, and that it represents the tribes of these islands that are in the Pacific, but this information is not enough to discover the time of plot, since the journeys of Polynesians from islands such as New Guinea and Solomon to find nearby territories, such as the islands of Fiji and Samoa, began around 4 thousand years ago.

Still, the doubt could be clarified by John Muskerone of the directors of “Moana” (2016), in a statement to CAPRICHO, where it was revealed that the story takes place 2 thousand years ago.

We traveled to islands like Fiji, Samoa and Tahiti, which are fascinating places, and that’s how our story came about,” Musker began explaining. “We found it interesting that the plot took place 2 thousand years ago, when the people of that region went out to navigate the world at a time when there was no iPhone, GPS, or anything like that. They were guided only by the stars and the Ocean.”

It is worth remembering that ‘Moana 2’ will be directed by Dave Derrick Jr.who worked on the storyboard for the first film, while Abigail Barlow, Emily Bear, Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina sign the script. In Brazil, the film’s release date has not yet been confirmed.
