Why doesn’t Daniel Radcliffe like watching movies?

Find out why Daniel Radcliffe, the actor responsible for bringing Harry Potter to life in theaters, doesn’t like watching himself play the wizard in films

Created by British author J.K. Rowling, the “Harry Potter” franchise has become a huge phenomenon among young people thanks to its books and film adaptations. On the big screen, the famous little wizard who bears the name of the saga was played by the actor Daniel Radcliffewhich is still recognized today for the role.

However, although Harry Potter boosted his career, in 2007, the year the film “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” was released, Daniel revealed in an interview with Deseret News (via Aventuras na História), that he doesn’t like watching films, as he considers it something “destructive” for himself.

“For me, watching old films is an almost completely destructive thing. I torture myself when I try to do this. You know, I was very young. I can’t be held responsible for the performance I gave in the first two films: I was between 11 and 12 years old. It wasn’t like Dakota Fanning, who could just do it. It was a child’s performance,” said Radcliffe.

In 2012, after the end of the saga in cinemas, in conversation with GQ, Daniel repeated the argument, stating that, for him, acting does not come naturally.

“Acting is something that doesn’t necessarily come naturally to me,” he said. “It’s certainly not as natural as for, say, Haley Joel Osment or Dakota Fanning, who were giving adult performances at the age of ten.”

Despite the statement, Daniel Radcliffe He continues to work as an actor today, making appearances and starring in films, series and plays. However, for fans hoping to see him again in the role of Harry Potter, that might not happen anytime soon.

In 2022, in an interview with The New York Times, the star revealed that, at the moment, he has no interest in playing the wizard again. According to him, “Back [a Harry Potter] It would be a huge change in my life. I’m not saying never, but look at the Star Wars people: they had 30, 40 years before they came back. For me, it’s only been 10 years [que acabou]. It’s not something I’m interested in at the moment.”

With the announcement of the production of an unprecedented series about Harry Potter, which promises to adapt all the books again, Radcliffe also told Deadline that he would not accept an invitation to participate in the series.

“I don’t think I would do that. Certainly, from everything I’ve read about this project, they are starting from scratch. It would probably be a bit strange for me to appear in the series out of nowhere,” said Daniel.

It is worth remembering that the star brought Harry Potter to life in all eight films of the saga, between 2001 and 2011. The last time the actor returned to the World of Magic was during the special 20th anniversary of the launch of ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’, promoted by HBO Max (currently Max), released in 2022.
