Decathlon presents the sailor shirt that volunteers will wear at the Olympics

Just a few days ago, on March 23, the volunteers of the Paris Olympics found out what their work uniforms will be like this summer. During the show at the Paris La Défense Arena, athlete and organizing committee president Tony Estange began his speech with this sentence: “We can’t do the games without you.” Volunteers, like athletes, will have their official uniforms. Therefore, fifteen pieces will be distributed to each of them, designed and provided by Decathlon: four sweatshirts, two trousers, one pair of shoes, four pairs of socks, a jacket, a bag, a fanny pack and a bucket hat.

One piece of the uniform was specially designed to represent France as the host country, the striped shirt. Practical conditions require that it be neither organic cashmere nor Jean Paul Gaultier’s signature, but turquoise and recycled polyester. Decathlon has paid attention to the eco-design of the collection, more than half of which is made in France, especially with these sailor tops. Due to quantities and production times, some pieces are made in Vietnam.

The French hardware manufacturer has worked on the design for almost a year and a half, wanting to find a balance between functionality, comfort and aesthetics. Thus, the pants can be turned into shorts if the sun comes out, and the raincoat will protect the volunteers from possible rain. Color code? Navy blue, turquoise, pink and a little yellow. Obviously, the idea is that the volunteers are recognizable in the crowd of visitors.

Some numbers about volunteers

There were 300,000 people to send in their bids for the Olympics in the French capital, and 45,000 will eventually be there. Paris 2024 volunteers will also be the face of France from July 26 to August 11. That is why the organization wanted to select them carefully and fairly. Thus, the volunteers will be 50% women and 50% men, and 101 departments of France will be represented. About a third of them come from a sports background and 5% of volunteers have a disability.
