More than 40 years after Popeye’s first live-action, the character is about to get a new adaptation. Know more!
The famous sailor from old children’s animations, Popeye, is about to return to the big screen. This is because producers Chernin Entertainment and King Features are working hard with the aim of making a new live-action film for the character.
According to information released through the Variety website, the project is being developed with a large budget, in addition to having Michael Caleo as the film’s screenwriter. It is worth remembering that the character had his first live-action in 1980, starring Robin Williams It is Shelley Duvall. With a budget of US$20 million, the production had a box office gross of US$60 million, a success at the time.
Popeye recently turned 95, marking his first appearance in the comics “Thimble Theater”, in January 1929. Due to his success, the sailor generated countless animated series, and marked the childhood of many Brazilians. Until the publication of this article, information about the cast and crew of the new film has not yet been released.
The live-action Popeye is expected to arrive close to the character’s 100th birthday. In the animations, the sailor lived protecting his girlfriend, Olívia Palito, who was in constant threat from the cartoon’s villain. In order to face him and save his beloved, Popeye ate spinach which made him strong enough to rescue Olivia.
