Have you ever wondered why Peter and Susan don’t return to Narnia after the events of ‘Prince Caspian’? Discover the answer!
Being one of the most popular literary franchises in the world, “The Chronicles of Narnia”, by CS Lewisreceived its first book in 1950, presenting the story of Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia Pevensie, four brothers who are transported to a magical world after entering a wardrobe.
At the end of the events of “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian”, fans were surprised by the scene in which, after a conversation with Aslan, it is announced that Pedro and Susana, the oldest, will no longer return to Narnia.
But why does this happen?
In both the books and the films adapted by Disney, the details of Aslan’s private conversation with Pedro and Susana are not explained. However, during a public assembly, the lion explains to the Narnians that the two are already grown up, and that they learned everything they needed in that world — while the youngest, Edmundo and Lúcia, would still have the opportunity to return.
As a result, after returning to England, Pedro starts to live with professor Digory Kirke, who becomes his tutor while he prepares for college, and Susana travels with her parents to the United States.
The surprising thing, however, is that in the last book in the franchise, “The Last Battle”, we discover that the oldest Pevensie manages to return to Narnia after receiving a call in the form of a vision from King Tirian stating that the kingdom was in trouble.
The image also appears to the youngest, Edmundo and Lúcia, as well as Eustáquio, Jill, Polly and Professor Digory, all the other humans who have already had the opportunity to visit Narnia.
While searching for the necessary utensils to return to the magical world, the seven end up dying in a train accident, when they are transported directly to the kingdom, and are recruited to the Country of Aslan, where they live out their eternity after Pedro closes the passage between the two worlds forever.
And why didn’t Susana return?
Still in the last book, when the Narnia friends meet Tirian, Pedro is asked why only one of his sisters was present. Sighing, he explains that Susan was no longer a friend of Narnia.
Eustáquio, the Pevensies’ cousin, continues the explanation by stating that, now, whenever anyone tried to talk about Narnia with the eldest, she referred to the kingdom as a fantasy world, and that it was all just a game when they were children. .
Jill ends by pointing out that Susana has changed, and today “all she thinks about is lingerie, makeup and social commitments. In fact, she was always crazy about being big.”
With the brothers’ departure to Aslan’s Country, the death of their parents, and the closing of the passage between the human world and Narnia, Susana became the only survivor. However, after that, there is no information about what happened to the character since then.
