Facts you need to know before the new adaptation

Before the new adaptation of ‘The Chronicles of Narnia’ arrives, check out some interesting facts about the franchise created by CS Lewis

In July last year, the New Yorker confirmed that the filmmaker Greta Gerwig was confirmed as the director responsible for directing the newest adaptation of “The Chronicles of Narnia”, produced by the streaming service, Netflix.

Second Ted SarandosCEO of the platform, in an interview with Time magazine (via Omelete), the new films “will not be different from how the public may have imagined these worlds, but they will be bigger and bolder than they thought”.

So far, the new features do not yet have a release date. However, to anticipate the long-awaited debut, RECREIO separated an incredible list with five interesting facts about the universe created by CS Lewis. Check out!

1. Seven books

If you only watched the three films inspired by “The Chronicles of Narnia” released by Disney, you probably don’t imagine that, in fact, the original saga is made up of seven books. In chronological order, the works are: “The Magician’s Nephew”, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, “Prince Caspian”, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, “The Silver Chair”, “ The Horse and His Boy” and “The Last Battle”.

2. Inspired by the Bible?

Yes! At various moments in the saga, we can see clear allusions to Christianity and the Bible — even though, as reported by Super Interessante magazine, the author himself stated that the references were not intentional.

Among the examples that can be cited is the way in which Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia are called by the Narnians: sons of Adam and daughters of Eve, the same way in which men and women are called in the sacred book. Furthermore, Aslan is also described with characteristics similar to God, as he is responsible for creating this entire universe, and acts as an advisor throughout the saga.

3. Not made for children

Initially, CS Lewis He didn’t write “The Chronicles of Narnia” with children in mind. However, due to the simple and light language of its works, the franchise was soon very well accepted by children, being loved by people of all ages to this day. Today, more than 120 million copies have been sold worldwide, translated into approximately 47 languages.

4. Inspiration for other sagas

Right after the release of the first book, “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”, in 1950, the work of CS Lewis became a huge success. The author’s work was so recognized that it even inspired other great writers of our time, such as J.K. Rowling (Harry Potter) and Daniel Handler (A Series of Unfortunate Events).

In an interview in 2001 with Sydney Morning Herald, Rowling revealed that “When Hogwarts came to mind as the name of the school, I had no idea where it had come from. I found myself thinking about the Narnia wardrobe route [na série de C.S. Lewis, incluindo O Leão, A Feiticeira e o Guarda-Roupa] when Harry is told he has to throw himself into the barrier at King’s Cross Station — it dissolves and he is on platform Nine and Three-Quarter, where the train to Hogwarts is.”

5. The only gift in all the books

The Pevensie brothers, Pedro, Susana, Edmundo and Lúcia, are part of the main characters in the story — but they are not part of all the books. The only character present in the seven works of the saga is the lion Aslan.
