A few years ago, the live-action of “The Sword in the Stone” was confirmed by Disney, however, now it may not happen. Know more!
To the delight of fans, just over 5 years ago, it was announced that the 1963 animation “The Sword in the Stone” would have a live-action film produced by Disney. However, since then, the company has not given any new updates about the project, leaving animation lovers in a big wait — until now.
In a recent interview with Collider, the filmmaker Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, who would be the director responsible for the live-action, said that production will probably no longer happen. According to him, everything was ready to go ahead, however, Disney decided to hold back the project.
“I had been attached to the film for a long time, and prepared a lot of it for Disney. I don’t know exactly what happened, but the studio decided to hold off on the project.
So for now, it’s a paused project, and I don’t know what’s going to happen, to be honest. But I think it’s a great story. I would be very excited to do this if they decided to greenlight the project.
But as you can imagine, this industry is always dealing with a lot of projects, and you don’t know exactly which ones will work out. So, yes, I really hope ‘The Sword in the Stone’ happens because I think there’s a big fan base waiting for it,” Fresnadillo said.
In Brazil, the animated film “The Sword in the Stone” is available through the Disney+ streaming service. The film was officially released in 1963, and lasts 1h20, making it one of Disney’s greatest classics.
