Disney Entertainment stated that certain categories and parts of the show could not be included in the 90-minute version due to time constraints.
Organizers cut the nomination for Best Feature Documentary from the abbreviated international television version of the Oscars, with the film 20 Days in Mariupol winning. It was reported by Public.
In particular, for the second year in a row, the Public Culture channel is the exclusive broadcaster of the ceremony in Ukraine. On Monday night, viewers could see the full version of the award.
The next day, March 11, the same TV channel was scheduled to show an international shortened version, but it turned out that not all the winners were shown there.
According to the channel’s executive producer Lukyan Galkiga, last year the award for the best documentary film about the Russian oppositionist Alexei Navalny was not cut from the international version of the award.
“The team was surprised and very disappointed when they did not see in the editing of the international version the nomination for Best Feature Documentary Film, for which the film 20 days in Mariupol received a fair award. Mstislav Chernov’s powerful speech was emphasized the unity between Ukraine and the world – this episode, full of truth and power, according to the version , was distributed to the international licensees of Oscar,” the Public team was angry.
Representatives of Disney Entertainment explained why they did not include the 20-day award ceremony in Mariupol in the shortened version of the international telecast of the Oscars.
The company cited time constraints for the short version of the show and added that the selection of nominations for the short version was predetermined in the planning process several weeks ago.
Disney Entertainment representatives noted that they have granted the Public a license to show Ukraine the entire ceremony live and an alternate 90-minute version of the show. Therefore, the TV channel decided to broadcast the full version so that viewers could once again see the victory of Ukraine.
We remind you that the main statue for the best film was awarded to the film Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan.
