Being one of Universal Pictures’ most popular franchises, “Kung Fu Panda” will receive its fourth sequel in theaters on March 21, where we will be reunited with Po, Master Shifu and other classic characters.
According to the official synopsis, in “Kung Fu Panda 4” Po will be chosen as the Spiritual Leader of the Valley of Peace, and will need to choose a new Dragon Warrior to train before assuming his new position. Despite being quite expected, something that surprised fans of the franchise was the production budget, which only cost around US$85 million, an extremely low value when compared to the first three films, which cost approximately US$150 million. .
However, anyone who thinks that the budget reduction will mean that the film will not reach the same technical quality as other productions is mistaken — and this can be proven in an exclusive video that RECREIO had access to, where the producers reveal a little more behind the scenes , giving details about the creation of some of the new characters.
To develop Camaleoa, the newest villain, for example, Sean SextonHead of Character Animation at Universal, reveals that it was necessary to create a specific apparatus to make the animation of his transformation even scarier.
“It’s basically a CG doll with enough controls to be able to move all the parts and scale. Camaleoa had 3,130 controls. You could change every part of that character”, explained Sexton.
Meanwhile, to give life to Zhen, a fox who will be trained by Po to become the new Dragon Warrior, the director Mike Mitchell reveals that the production’s animators even studied real foxes to provide more realism on the big screen.
