During an interview with TIME magazine, filmmaker Greta Gerwig revealed what is needed for “Barbie 2” to happen; find out what it is!
In an interview with TIME magazine (via Variety), Greta Gerwig stated that he would make “Barbie 2” if he found a new exciting story about the doll. For those who don’t remember, she was responsible for the script and direction of the live-action film, released in July last year.
My north star is ‘What do I deeply love? What do I really care about?’, like, ‘What’s the story behind this story?’. And I think with ‘Barbie,’ the story behind that story was that I loved Barbie.
I remember going to Toys R Us and looking at the Barbies and I loved their hair. And I loved everything about them and my mother wasn’t sure about that. And I think that’s the story, that’s the generational story.
I’m always looking for those lines. If I find a line, then we get (a sequence). If I don’t find it, there won’t be any more”, concluded the filmmaker.
However, the director did not give a definitive answer about whether or not to make a new film for the Barbie doll. But, she added that she loved writing and directing the film, as well as stating that she is not limited to the films she makes, always looking for different projects in order to get some fun.
[Barbie] It’s something I loved doing. And I loved the world we built and all the actors so much and the idea of being with that group of people again is so exciting.
The greatest emotion I feel is discovering how to build my wings on the way down. Just jumping off the highest thing I can find… I hope to do all kinds of different films in my career, big and small.
But I think they always need to have that element of adventure because that’s how I have fun,” Gerwig revealed.
