Jackie Chan’s cameo in ‘Mulan’ that almost no one knows about

Jackie Chan was one of the most popular actors of the late 90s and early 2000s. Known mainly for his action and comedy films, Chan began in Hong Kong cinema, before arriving in Hollywood, where he starred in features such as “Rush Hour” (1998), “The 2 Billion Dollar Suit” (2002), “The Karate Kid” (2010), among others .

However, something that many people don’t know is that Jackie also participated in “Mulan”, an animation from the Disney princess franchise that adapts the ancient Chinese tale “The Ballad of Hua Mulan”.

In Taiwanese Mandarin, Cantonese and Mainland Chinese versions, Jackie Chan He was the actor responsible for voicing General Li Shang, the protagonist’s romantic partner. Meanwhile, in English, the character is voiced by BD Wong.

But does not stop there! Chan was even invited to sing the song “I’ll Make A Man Out Of You”, Shang’s solo in the film presented at the moment when the summoned soldiers are at the imperial army training center, and prepare to face the invaders Huns, led by the villain Shan Yu.

Recent works

Since 2018, Jackie Chan decided to take a break from Hollywood productions, and has dedicated himself to working as an actor, producer and director in feature films in his homeland, Hong Kong.

As reported by the Terra portal, during his participation in the Chinese reality show Memories Beyond Horizon, Chan revealed that the main reason for his departure from Hollywood productions was his difficulty with English.

“When I went to the US to film, there were a lot of words I couldn’t pronounce correctly and that made things difficult. Nobody recognized how well I fought. They only cared that my pronunciation in English was good.”, declared the actor.

Despite the decision to focus on Hong Kong productions, Jackie makes an exception when it comes to animations. In 2023, for example, the star was one of the voice actors in the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, titled “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Chaos”, where he lends his voice to Master Splinter.
