Next Thursday, the 22nd, “Avatar: The Last Airbender” debuts in the Netflix catalog. The series is a live-action adaptation of the animation released by Nickelodeon between 2005 and 2008, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”, a title that follows the adventures of Aang, successor to a long line of avatars who becomes responsible for save the world, alongside his friends, Katara, Sokka, and Toph Beifong, from the Fire Nation’s attempted domination.
The quartet and the other characters that help build the story will also be portrayed in the Netflix production, but this time, they have real-life interpreters, instead of animated features.
With this in mind, RECREIO has put together a comparison below between the cartoon and live-action versions of the characters, in order to compare the fidelity in the portrayal of these figures that represent the nations of water, earth, fire and air. Look:
Aang (Gordon Cormier)
Aang, the 12-year-old boy who becomes the last of the Air Nomads, is played in the series by Gordon Cormier. In addition to being the last Airbender, he is also the Avatar of his generation, being the only one capable of bending the four elements.
Katara (Kiawentiio)

Katara, played by Kiawentiio in “Avatar: The Last Airbender” she is the last waterbending master of the Southern Water Tribe. Katara is Sokka’s younger sister, and both were raised by their grandparents after losing their parents in one of the tragedies of the War of One hundred years.
Sokka (Ian Ousley)

Sokka (Ian Ousley) is a warrior from the Southern Water Tribe. He and his sister, Katara, discover Aang and are responsible for helping him in his mission to end the war that affects the four nations.
Prince Zuko (Dallas James Liu)

Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu)

Prince Zuko’s sister, Princess Azula (Elizabeth Yu) also dominates fire and is always in conflict with her brother, as she wants to become the next heir to the Fire Nation throne.
Fire Lord Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim)

One of the most powerful firebenders in the World of Avatar, Ozai (Daniel Dae Kim) is the leader of the Fire Nation. He is the father of Prince Zuko and Princess Azula.
Uncle Iroh (Paul Sun-Hyung Lee)

Firebending master and mentor to his nephew, Prince Zuko, Uncle Iroh has the opposite personality to his family, as he is sweet and kind. The character is played by Paul Sun-Hyung Lee on the Serie.
Suki (Maria Zhang)

Suki is the oldest and the leader of the Earth Kingdom Kyoshi Warriors. In the plot, Suki ends up getting closer and creating a unique bond with Sokka. The character is played by Maria Zhang.
June (Arden Cho)

June is a ruthless bounty hunter, recognized as one of the best among the four nations. Arden Cho will be responsible for the role.
Monk Gyatso (Lim Kay Siu)

Gyatso is the airbender monk who teaches Aang how to master his first element. Lim Kay Siu plays the character.
