In Beauty and the Beast, an evil fairy places a curse on a prince, causing him to become a Beast (he has physical characteristics of several animals). The fairy also forbade the Beast from using intelligence. The prince would have to live like this until a woman fell in love with him, preferring kindness over beauty and intelligence.


Only one can live!

In an attempt to become immortal, Voldemort, the villain of Harry Potter, created Horcruxes with parts of his own soul. But he had no idea that by trying to kill Lilian and James Potter, an unplanned Horcrux would form in Harry! The prophecy said that one of them could not live. Everything went well the moment You-Know-Who killed the Horcrux that existed in Potter.


Princess or ogress?

As a child, Princess Fiona, from the Shrek films, was cursed by a witch: during the day, she would be human, but, after sunset, she would transform into an ogress. Only true love would free the princess from the curse. Therefore, the king and queen, Fiona’s parents, sought help from a fairy godmother: she locked the princess in a tower, protected by a dragon, so that she could be saved by a prince.

When Aurora, from Sleeping Beauty, was born, three fairy godmothers offered gifts: Flora gave beauty, Fauna offered singing and, before Spring gave her a gift, Maleficent cast a spell. At 16, Aurora would pierce her finger and fall into an eternal sleep. Soon, the fairy Spring discovered that the curse would be broken if Aurora received a kiss from true love — in the 2014 film, this kiss comes from the love of Maleficent herself!

In Valente, Queen Elinor tried to teach Merida to behave like a princess, looking for the perfect suitor for her daughter. But the girl wanted another destiny! So, after an argument, Merida destroyed the family tapestry and fled. She ended up meeting a witch, who she asked for a spell to help her follow another path. The witch then offered a cursed pie, which Merida took to Elinor. Upon eating it, the queen turned into a bear — and Merida discovered that she would have to repair the tapestry to break the spell.

In Pirates of the Caribbean — The Curse of the Black Pearl, the ship’s crew, commanded by Captain Barbossa, spent all the gold from an ancient Aztec treasure — and was hit by a curse. They began to sail the oceans eternally, turning into skeletons at night. The spell can only be broken if each pirate’s blood is returned to the treasure chest.

In the Japanese manga series Naruto, the Nine-Tailed Fox monster attacks the ninja village Konoha. To end the imposed terror, the village leader seals the monster inside his own son, Naruto Uzumaki – and loses his life for doing so. Naruto grew up isolated, not knowing why people didn’t like him. Twelve years later, he discovered his past and began training to be a ninja — at the same time, he had to deal with the curse and control the Nine-Tailed Fox.
