In a video posted on Instagram, psychosociologist Christel Albare presents the concept of emotional addiction.
Lack of self-confidence, waiting for someone else’s approval to make a decision, fear of any conflict… Here are some signs that may indicate that you are suffering from emotional addiction. This can affect our romantic, friendship, family and even professional relationships. This is what Christel Albaret, psycho-sociologist and founder of the online therapy platform La Clinique e-Santé, describes. In a video published on Instagram on February 12, the specialist lists the main characteristics of emotional addiction.
Emotional insecurity
“Does it bother you to wait for the message?” “Do you often sacrifice your needs and desires for fear of being alone?” asks the expert at the beginning of his video. If we add to this the constant search for approval from others, it is likely that we are emotionally dependent. This addiction is characterized by an “excessive need for love, recognition, or approval from others,” he explains. “A form of addiction based on an obsession, an emotional need.”

According to a psychosociologist, such addiction is “based on a deep search for emotional security” that is never satisfied. A discussion that could have “significant impacts on well-being and individual autonomy,” Christel Albare warns. As a result, waiting, insecurity and fear of abandonment can be real suffering.
The first step to getting rid of it is to be aware of it. “Understanding emotional addiction opens the door to better self-awareness and healthier relationship dynamics,” assures the psychosociologist. During that time, you ask yourself this question. “And you, have you ever experienced a form of emotional dependence?”
