The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has added an Academy Award nomination for the first time since 2001. It will be given to casting directors. The New York Times writes about it.
The gold statuette for the new category will be awarded starting in 2026 for films released in 2025.
“Competitive directors play an important role in the production of films, and we are proud to add the Best Casting category as the Academy continues to grow,” said Bill Kramer, Academy Executive Director.
