The Disney classic, ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’, has a discarded scene that almost no one knows about; find out which one!
“Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” hit theaters in 1937, being Disney’s first feature film, as well as being the first long-form animated film in the world. The plot, which started the studio’s great empire of princesses, is one of the most loved by animation fans, and its history is known in all corners of the globe.
However, something that not everyone may know is that the production should have included an extra scene after the song “The Dream I Dreamed of”, in which Snow White tells a story in musical format to the seven dwarfs.
Discarded scene
As described in the book “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: The Art and Creation of Walt Disney’s Classic Animated Film”, by JB Kaufmanand reported by ScreenRant, after the princess sang “The Dream I Dreamed”, a dream of Snow White should be shown, where she danced with the prince.
However, the scene ended up being discarded before the animators even started to animate it, due to “both aesthetic and practical reasons”. Kaufman explains in the book that maintaining the sequence would have “changed [o filme] to a separate level of high fantasy”, which didn’t fit the bill.
Furthermore, maintaining the momentum would take even longer for the film to be ready, in addition to increasing Disney’s budget — which was already at its limit. As a result, the film could have had its premiere delayed or, in the worst case, made the animation so expensive that it was no longer worth it for the studio to finish the project.
Discarding the scene also prevented the production from becoming redundant, since, right at the beginning, the princess already sings a song wishing for the prince, moments before they meet for the first time.
In the plot we know, the two only meet again at the end of the work, when the prince saves her from the Evil Queen’s curse present in the apple bitten by Snow White with a kiss of true love.
