War

After managing to escape the underworld and emerge on the shores of Montauk, Percy comes face to face with Ares, and decides to challenge the god of war to individual combat. Despite facing some difficulties, the demigod wins the fight and receives the Helm of Darkness from Hades. After managing to return the helmet to Alecto, Hades ends up fulfilling his promise, and sends Sally back to the human world.

With that, after saving his mother, he decides that, even though he missed the Summer Solstice deadline, he still wants to return Zeus’s master bolt to Olympus, to try to stop the war.

Upon meeting Zeus, the boy tries to explain that the real enemy was Kronos, and that the gods should not fight among themselves, but unite to fight the opponent. The God of gods does not listen to Percy, and states that he will continue the war until he achieves victory, starting an argument between the two.

Poseidon then appears to save his son from his brother’s wrath, and manages to convince him to end the war, in addition to deciding to call a family meeting to discuss the possible threat from Ares and Cronos, in addition to recent events.

But who was the lightning thief?

After exchanging a few words with his father, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood, where he is greeted with applause. Despite the huge celebration, the demigod cannot rest until he finds out who the real lightning thief was.

The answer comes the same night, during a celebration taking place at the camp. On that occasion, the son of Poseidon meets Luke in the forest, when he discovers that his friend is the person he was looking for, and that he was fated to betray him.

Luke tries to justify himself by saying that his intention was never to hurt Percy, and that he only sent him to Cronos with the intention of making him come to his side, and not so that he would be killed. It is worth remembering that the son of Hermes holds a huge grudge against his father and other gods, and was trying to help in the rebirth of Kronos so that the Titans could usher in the Golden Age of Olympus.

Before Percy Jackson can do anything to stop Luke, the boy uses his sword to open a portal, and manages to escape Camp Half-Blood.

Future

Even though Luke has escaped, Percy, Annabeth and Grover make a promise to meet at camp the following year, regardless of what happens.

Upon returning home to be reunited with his mother, we realize that Poseidon’s son is being tormented by Kronos in his dreams. While sleeping, the villain promised that, soon, if Percy survives the next events, the two would meet in person. The enemy, however, makes it clear that his return depends on the boy’s survival.
