The post-credits scene of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” is different in the book and the adapted film; find out what it’s like in each of them!
[CUIDADO! SPOILERS DE PERCY JACKSON ABAIXO]
Last Tuesday night, the 30th, the final episode of the first season of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” was made available in the Disney+ catalogue, compiling several memorable events that fans of the books of Rick Riordan you already know, like the meeting between Zeus and Poseidon, the confrontation about Luke stealing the master bolt and the reunion with Sally, for example.
Furthermore, another moment was also included in the 42-minute duration of the last chapter, gaining space in the series’ post-credits scene by presenting an event familiar to the fandom of the stories that appeared on the pages: the divorce of Sally and Gabe Ugliano, the Percy’s stepfather.
However, the adaptation takes place differently from that included in the books, and also distances itself from the portrayal seen in the first film adaptation of the story, “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” (2010), thus being unique in each of these formats. .
With this in mind, RECREIO brought together how the series, the film and the book approached the event that marks the separation of Sally and Gabe.
ON THE SERIE
Starting with the Disney+ production, the series follows Gabe walking towards the apartment he shared with Sally, while talking to his lawyer on the phone. On the call, Gabe complains about the divorce, and reveals that he thinks it’s unfair to have to pay a lawyer even though it was Sally who requested the separation.
When he finally tries to open the door of the house, he realizes that the locks have been changed, which makes him upset, and leads him to take a package that was in front of the house, in order to get revenge for the inconvenience. But when he opens the box, he finds Medusa’s head, causing him to be turned to stone.
IN THE MOVIE
Just like in the series, in “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”, the moment is seen in the post-credits scene. At the moment in question, Gabe arrives at the apartment where he lived with Sally and finds all his things separated so he can move out of the place.
Impacted by how much work it would take to make the move, he decides to get a drink to distract himself while he thinks about how to get all his things out of space, but sees that there is a padlock preventing the refrigerator from being opened along with a note from Percy that says : “Don’t EVER open that fridge! No matter what.”
He ignores the message, breaks the lock and comes face to face with Medusa’s head on the refrigerator shelf, being instantly turned to stone.
IN THE BOOK
According to the Screenrant portal, in the book, Gabe’s fate is intentionally sealed by Sally. This happens after a conversation between Percy and Sally, where the boy says that he could get rid of Gabe, as they no longer needed him to “protect” them with his scent.
Some time later, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood, and receives a letter from Sally saying that she sold a statue titled “The Poker Player”, implying that she used Medusa’s head to turn Gabe to stone, as, At that time, no one knew his whereabouts.
