Eurovision will take place in May 2024 in Malmo. The grand final will be held on Saturday 11 May.
Romania will not participate in the current song contest Eurovision. Virgin Radio reported this.
The reason for this is financial restrictions. This decision was made by the Board of Directors of the Romanian broadcaster TVR in a meeting on January 25, with five votes in favor, four abstentions and four others against.
This year, TVR will use the funds for other priority productions and projects. This includes, in particular, the broadcast of the Summer Olympic Games in Paris and continued investment in the new headquarters of TVR Craiova.
It can be recalled that Romania debuted in 1994 and has participated 23 times since then. They have never won the competition, but took third place in 2005 (Luminita Anghel & Sistem – “Let Me Try”) and 2010 (Paula Seling & Ovi – “Playing With Fire”). The worst result was in 2023, when they finished the semi-finals without a result.
Since the semi-finals were introduced in 2004, Romania has qualified for the grand final 14 out of 18 times.
As previously reported in the song competition Eurovision 2024 Representatives from 37 countries will participate.
