This January, the brooches worn by Serge Gainsbourg are being reinterpreted by the Marseille designer.
In the 1970s, French designer Rose Repetto decided to soften the timeless brogue leather shoe by giving it the look of a jazz slipper. Thus was born “Zizi” by Repetto, a nod to dancer Zizi Jeanmar. The shoe became popular when Serge Gainsbourg adopted it and made it an inseparable style element of his silhouette. More than fifty years after its creation, Zizi decided to reinvent itself this January, thanks to creator Simon Porte Jacquemus, who gave it a new look.

Under the gaze of the Marseille designer, the Zizi brogue changes its appearance without losing its aura. Understand that the heel becomes circular while the rounded toe is replaced by the modernity of the square toe. A geometric and androgynous reinterpretation that evokes the tips of opera dancers’ slippers. Available in black or white leather, both models are made in the Repetto workshops in Dordogne using the stitched and turned method.

Simon Port Jacquemus isn’t his first attempt at redefining footwear. Already in 2022, he created a sensation by unveiling a completely redesigned Nike running shoe. One comes in shades of cream, the other in brown, all with a graphic design paired with the Jacquemus logo. That kind of thing doesn’t cause stock shortages in minutes. It’s enough to encourage the designer to tackle another iconic Nike pair, the Air Force 1, whose outlines have been revealed for 2023.
