Why should you avoid wearing an eye mask to sleep?

Dermatologist @Dermato_drey recommends avoiding these masks in a video he posted on Instagram.

Dermato_drey is one of the rare dermatologists who speaks on social media in France. His Instagram account now has 93,000 followers. In one of his latest videos, he addresses the issue of night masks. On the plane, but also in everyday life, they allow those who cannot tolerate light to sleep, to isolate themselves from it. But it’s not necessarily a good idea for a professional, “especially if you have puffy eyelids or bags.” He warns that these masks, especially if they are too tight, restrict “the movement of the muscles around the eyes. As a result, venous and lymphatic drainage is less efficient.

The expert explains that lying down causes blood to stagnate in the face, and therefore the eyelids will tend to swell, especially if you ate a lot of salt the day before.

Better quality sleep

For this mask problem, he suggests opting for blackout blinds or curtains to create total darkness that “will promote better quality sleep.” And for those who could not do without it, in this case it is better to choose a larger model that will not put pressure “even if it means replacing during the night”.
