On Thursday, January 11, the Belgian Lus and Yakuza artist announced on his Instagram page that he is suffering from multiple sclerosis. He accompanied his message with an exciting video montage.
“One year ago, two weeks after releasing my second album, I woke up paralyzed in both legs,” she wrote on her Instagram page on Wednesday, January 10. The 27-year-old Belgian singer of Lus and Yakuza told her fans in this lengthy message that she is suffering from multiple sclerosis, an infection that attacks the brain and spinal cord. “I had no idea what was happening to me. And before I knew it, I was in a wheelchair for three months because I couldn’t walk anymore,” she continued to her 440,000 followers.
Moon and Yakuza said he was “lost and confused” during this period, desperately seeking a diagnosis from better doctors, one of whom lived in Paris. The 2021 Victoires de la Musique winner of the Female Newcomer of the Year category has opened up about her anxiety when she became a victim of racism. “And this very famous neurologist looked at the MRI of my brain and spine and said, “I have good news for you.” You’re a black woman, but you got brains. And I think you have multiple sclerosis.” I was speechless because I was so shocked. Fortunately, my friend Charlotte (Charlotte Abramow, photographer, editor’s note) stood up for my honor and essentially told the doctor he was an idiot,” he continued.
No treatment
Lus and Yakuza, real name Marie-Pierre Kakoma, accompanied this text with a video montage in which we see her surrounded by her loved ones and in a wheelchair during her hospital stay. “As crazy as it sounds, it was a relief to know what I had, even though there was no cure for this disease,” she said. “With the help of God, my incredibly supportive family and friends, but most of all the love I received, I was able to walk again. I couldn’t believe my eyes. I have the impression of a miracle…”. Indeed, thanks to sheer willpower, the singer was able to regain her former legs and thus get back on stage and go on tour again “jumping and dancing like never before”. And finally. “I was so happy, the tour was sold out, I couldn’t believe my eyes once again. […] Thank you, thank you, my fans are the best people in the world!!!”
