Discover the mystery that has accompanied one of the characters for years, but which was solved with the arrival of Netflix’s “Pokémon Concierge”.
One of the biggest questions in the Pokémon universe is: after all, is Mudkip inspired by a dog or a cat? The mystery about which of the two animals was used as the basis for its creation arose with the arrival of the third generation of games, but only gained clarification with the arrival of the new Netflix series, “The Pokémon Concierge”.
This happens because, in the episodes of the animation that premiered on Netflix on December 28, 2023, it is possible to see that Mudkip is inspired by ‘man’s best friend’, since whenever he interacts with other characters, he “barks” at first part of his name: “mud”. See the example!
Still, this isn’t the only real-world living being used as inspiration for Mudkip’s look. Pokémon fans already knew that the species of salamander, known as the axolotl, had been the second and final reference for the creation of the character, making him a dog-fish Pokémon.
