Busy schedules, children to manage, busy meals… Christmas holidays leave their mark. Our advice to avoid getting soft on the inside and heading into January washed out.
During the two weeks of the year-end vacation, the first thing is freedom, pre-New Year hustle and bustle, disrupted schedules. Then come the scars of six-course meals, glasses of Château Léoville Poyferré, late hours, the occasional sporting management of children… It doesn’t take much to come back tired from these holidays. During the final days of the holidays, a few keys prevent (too much) damage. Overview:
Stay on schedule
A few days before the restart, the idea is to restore the rhythm of life and suitable sleeping hours for both young and old. In summary, it’s a party, but not too much. We put the children to bed with a book before 10 pm in order to sleep peacefully.
For what ? So that you don’t have to ask your superior for time off to recover from vacation. So that the youngest does not follow us around the house with a runny nose and teary eyes after giving up the fifth Karambar at 2:00 p.m.

Don’t skip meals
We quickly tend to replace busy New Year’s and New Year’s menus with a glass of warm water to relax the body. Result? Internal biological clock in reverse with cravings and hence the toast of St. Marceline at 4 p.m. Although it is wise to prefer light meals with thick soups at dinner, it is still important to stick to three meals a day. Gingerbread and hot chocolate without snacks. It’s the holidays.
For what ? Because if your lunch consists of green tea, then hypoglycemia is guaranteed and sweet fevers are guaranteed. And double portions for dinner.
Tire the kids out and put in the effort at the same time
We are killing two birds with one stone. On the one hand, there are children who tell about their day on the walls in the evening, because they are moderately tired. On the other hand, end-of-the-year meals we’ve come to love but wish we could lighten up on. So we find a nearby fitness trail, rent bikes, or take a long walk to get some fresh air. We arouse their curiosity, we discover the footprints of wild boars, jump, climb.
For what ? Because instead of sticking chewing gum to the (new) wallpaper in the dining room, the kids will spend their energy collecting leaves to make a herbarium. Because this bike ride will wipe out glasses of Château Latour from dinner on the 31st, or at least give us the impression that it has.
Blow and stretch
In the morning we devote 30 minutes to a run with complete peace of mind. The cold will leave us with an impression of how we cleanse this heavy body of previous excesses. Before going to sleep, stretch as much as you want with simple exercises that will last a quarter of an hour. Nothing feels better than stretching our numb muscles to facilitate sleep and a zen attitude. With the children, we start a session of musical chairs, pantomime or dance to get active and exercise.
For what ? To get moving and regain a good dose of wellbeing. Work on children’s motor skills and remove their temporary anger in the background Rene mole.
Sort the toys
Since Santa had the good idea to bring them another box of Lego Star Wars and a gun that shoots bullets (that hurt), we might as well do some real sorting in the rooms so young and old can start 2024. new ideas, basics.
For what ? To avoid stepping on the Playmobil when you come to put them inside in the evening. Usefully occupy them and keep the other kids happy by parting with Dolphin, who laughs like Flipper when you dunk him in the bath water.
Choose a fun cocoon
Christmas holidays are also made for that. Our feet warm in our lion head slippers, we look on Mom, I missed the plane under our sheep’s wool blanket. But we don’t fall into incrustation either. We enjoy cooking afternoons and cooking experiments for the whole family to enjoy. You can even get the kids involved and make six-handed gingerbread!
For what ? To bond over the joy of dining with family. To occupy the children who during this time will not argue with Polly Jeb in the eyes.
Succeed in impressing the guests
It’s often a marathon. An invitation to the annual Christmas tea at great aunt’s house, greetings to grandma, breakfast with friends… But if the holidays are an opportunity to spend time with those I don’t usually see, we can. Don’t be everywhere.
For what ? For our own good, because resting also means learning to do nothing and refocus on yourself or your loved ones. Not to remind this uncle that we don’t have exams at the beginning of the school year because we celebrated our 35th anniversary a few months ago.
