The grand House of El is not limited to just Supergirl and Superman. Find it out!
Superman is one of the most beloved heroes in the world. Created by DC Comics, the story of the alien from Krypton goes far beyond what happens in the city of Metropolis. To make the Man of Steel’s plot even more complete, the publisher has already presented the story of Kal-El’s other Kryptonian relatives in the comics.
If you don’t know the House of El yet, discover some interesting facts about Superman’s family.
1. Family of geniuses?
Numerous members of Casa de El have already been recognized for great achievements. Jor-El, Superman’s father, for example, invented Krypton’s hover cars and discovered a parallel dimension called the “Ghost Zone”. Among other genius relatives, we have Gam-El, the father of modern Kryptonian architecture, Sul-El, the creator of the first telescope on the planet and Hatu-El, the person responsible for developing the electric motor and the electromagnetic magnet.
2. Astronaut Mom
Before marrying Jor-El, Lara Lor-Van was a great astronaut from Krypton. She ended up abandoning her career to raise her family, but she never abandoned her knowledge. With them, she helped her husband with his inventions, in addition to being extremely important in transforming Kal-El’s ship into a safe vehicle, thus allowing him to arrive on Earth safe and sound.
3. The “S” in the family coat of arms is not super
Many people believe that the “S” present in Supergirl and Superman’s uniforms refers to the word “super” — but it has nothing to do with it. The symbol is the family crest, and the “S” stands for hope in the Kryptonian language.
4. Cyborg uncle
Zor-El is the father of Kara Zor-El, Supergirl, and Clark’s paternal uncle, being Jor-El’s younger brother. During the comic The New 52 #1, from 2011, Kara discovers that there is a Cyborg Superman on the planet I’noxia. He was her father, who managed to be rescued by Brainiac from the destruction of Krypton and was transformed into a half-robot.
5. Series about grandfather
In 2018, the subscription channel Syfy launched the series “Krypton”, which told the story of Seg-El, the grandfather and Kara and Kal-El, who tried to rescue the family’s honor and save their planet from chaos. The production was not very well received by the public, and only ran for two seasons, being canceled in 2019.
