Nothing foreordained that this Victorian brick house at 1 Sloane Gardens would become a very luxurious boutique hotel. Built in 1889 by Edwin Thomas Hall, the iconic Liberty & Co. by the architect of the shop and Dulwich College Library, here it was completely redesigned and remodeled by François-Joseph Graf after six years of work.
A project launched by Cadogan Estates and Jean-Louis Costes, who had already approached the talented architect and decorator.

About this extensive restoration, François-Joseph Graf explains: “I wanted the overall concept to be extremely respectful of the places, their strong cultural identity and their distinctive English dimensions. The Victorian era is undoubtedly the most representative era British style. During this period of glory, ruling the world as far as the Indian Empire and Singapore, from 1860 to the start of the First World War, England was able to impose a strong individuality, elegant, comfortable and extremely modern reading of the Art of Art. living It was this iconic perfume that I wanted to make people feel. »

In this setting of 30 rooms and suites, a restaurant and a bar, François-Joseph Graff has invited charm and elegance to create a tasteful destination. If the atmosphere in the lobby, lounge and bar is dark, the atmosphere in the rooms is quite different. Light woodwork and mosaics designed for special areas, Art Deco stained glass windows, oak floors… We breathe in the light.

Each is distinguished by antique furniture, antique art objects, well-chosen books, original Smith & Benson light fixtures, 21 custom-made rug designs, woven fabrics by Le Manach and prints by Pierre Frey, and bathrooms equipped with porcelain tubs. . Special identity

As for the restaurant, head to the 6th floor to discover an immaculate space adorned with lacquered shelves displaying monochrome vases and illuminated by stained glass windows in the sky; Victorian designed by James Whistler and Thomas Jekyll for Frederick Richards Leyland’s home in Kensington at 49 Princes Gate in 1877.
