A former pop star, she launched her own fashion brand in 2008 and launched her own cosmetics line. The founder and artistic director of Victoria Beckham Beauty talks to us about the magic of perfume.
“My first memory of perfume. I was a child and collected empty bottles of Chanel No. 5 that my mother’s friend gave me and displayed in my room. Later in the 1980s, I distinctly remember my mother getting ready before going to a dinner party. It was fascinating. That was definitely the founding moment that made me fall in love with the world of beauty and perfume. I still remember her lining up all her bottles of Poison by Dior or Black Opium by Yves Saint Laurent and her jars of Elnett hairspray.
I always dreamed of creating a collection of perfumes that would enrich my ready-to-wear collection. I started working on this exciting project eight years ago. I didn’t particularly want to rush things, but to consider each step with the necessary attention: the juices, the bottle, the visual, the campaign. Collaborated with the best, as with my line before skin care Enlisting Augustinus Bader. When I started thinking about the perfumes I loved, one name stood out in my mind: the name of Frenchman Jerome Epinet, an incredible perfumer. I was categorical. I wanted only him and only him. I literally stalked him.

Therefore, over the last eight years I have spent a lot of time with Jerome, in Paris, New York or via Zoom, getting to know him better and entrusting him with what I love most: fragrances and personal notes. We talked a lot, shared our stories and life experiences and thought about how we could translate them into fragrances as accurately as possible. These fragrances somehow form a portrait. That’s why we did and didn’t happen, worked and processed, endlessly discussed and discussed again.
I create what I lack, what was not there, and what I sought in vain

Be it fashion, makeup, skin care, and today I create this collection of perfumes, I believe, what I lack, what was not there and what I was looking for in vain. Perfume is the finishing touch to a wardrobe. It is an extension of clothes, an amplifier of appearance. Choosing the perfume you are going to wear is the same process as choosing an outfit; depends on where you go, who you go with, what state of mind you are in. And since we are never really the same, I felt it necessary to create several perfumes…
These perfumes tell the story of my deep love with my husband, our travels, and my long journey to self-esteem.

I would even say that my three fragrances are autobiographical. I tell my story, the story of my deep love with my husband, our travels and my long road to self-esteem. It’s honest, even organic. These perfumes are my fifth child.”
