The most recent version of Rebelde premiered in 2022 on Netflixwinning the hearts not only of new fans, but also of many people who followed the Mexican version released in 2004, responsible for launching the worldwide successful band RBD.
One of the big reasons for leaving many people in love are the numerous references to the 2000s soap opera and the sextet itself, which appear several times throughout the episodes and even directly interfere in the story of the new series. Check out some!
1. Presence of actors from the original version
Netflix’s Rebel features two very familiar faces to fans: Estefania Villarreal (Celina Ferrer) and Karla Cossio (Pilar Gandía). In the series, Celina has now taken on the role of director of Elite Way School, while Pilar appears as mother and advisor to Jana, one of the new protagonists.
2. A new Colucci
In the first episode, we are introduced to Luka Colucci (Franco Masini), a new EWS student who has problems with his father, Marcelo. The young man is the cousin of the iconic Mia Colucci and, like her, he also has a slightly arrogant and self-confident attitude. The funny thing is that, during the hazing, Luka ends up being one of those chosen to perform in the RBD uniforms, and is responsible for the tambourine that Mia always used in shows.
3. Direct tribute to RBD
Before the release, many fans imagined that the series would be unlikely to pay homage to RBD — but everyone was wrong. At the new Elite Way School, there is a special showcase dedicated exclusively to RBD and all of his impressive achievements. There, in addition to all six classic red uniforms being on display, we can also see gold records, photos, and Mia’s classic pink hat.
4. The return of the Sect
All the events of the first season revolve around the consequences generated by the hazing carried out in the first episode with the new students by a group of students who, in the future, we discover are the Sect. This secret organization already existed in the 2004 soap opera, and its objective was to expel all Elite Way scholarship holders. Now, the group seeks to eliminate all students who do not fit the standards imposed by themselves, such as being from renowned families and having money.
5. RBD Covers
After so many references, something that couldn’t be missing from Rebelde are the covers of some classic RBD songs. Among the songs presented by the new cast, we have “Rebelde”, “Sálvame”, Sólo Quédate en Silencio”, “Tras de Mi” and “Nuestro Amor”.
