Semi-permanent hair colors and makeup-inspired hair shades reinvent our hairstyles time and time again without the long-term commitment. It’s enough to do as you like.
Change your head like you change your shirt? Faster than a haircut at the barbershop and less restrictive than a wig, hair makeup will make our daily lives easier and satisfy our fleeting desires for fantasy. Just in time for the holidays, Zara’s first hairdo, designed by celebrity hairstylist Guido Palau and muse by Kaia Geber, sets the tone; New Year’s hairstyles. “With the return of disco fashion, all these shiny and lamé looks are back in style this season,” confirms Sacha de Carteret, hairstylist and founder of her salon in Paris.

Ready-to-wear and temporary looks
A more subtle, semi-permanent salon color allows you to experiment with new shades without the risk of them fading over time, like Wella’s hair ‘spray’ collection. You can try it with dotted touches on a few strands or all over the hair. “Increasingly, clients are venturing into temporary coloring with this type of patina in pastel pink or orange tones when they go blonde or have lighter balayage. It’s a trend that takes effect in the thirties and forties,” observes Sacha de Carteret, who notes that “the results last up to five to ten shampoos on an already light or discolored foundation.”
What about brunettes? “There are highly pigmented green, purple, pink or blue eyeliner-inspired gels that are applied to the strands and disappear with the next shampoo,” continues the expert. A pioneer in this field, the Colorista line from L’Oréal Paris led the way a few years ago. Even bolder, Schwarzkopf’s Color Alchemy holographic hair color, applied with a makeup brush or sponge and disappearing in the next wash, reacts to light and temperature.
The most viral look of the moment. The stencil effect pattern seen on celebrities (gradient on Billie Eilish, stripes on Rihanna and Cardi B, leopard on Kim Kardashian, floral on Jennifer Lopez, etc.).

Express touches
Apart from the extravagances, hair makeup also makes our daily look easy. Colored dry shampoos, tinted mascara, hair shadows… Color products to cover the roots that grow back between two dyes or gray locks (Bumble & Bumble, Moroccanoil, Oribe, Baptiste, Color Wow, L’Oréal Paris… .) Like a concealer, these concealer tools to take out of your handbag allow you to touch up throughout the day without looking a thing. “The dry shampoo version spreads well on the hair, so it is the best choice for those who have a lot of gray hair that they want to hide,” advises Sasha de Carteret. “If you only have a few on the edge of your face, the blush format is more suitable as it allows for a more precise application with the brush. In all cases, the result lasts up to three days, so it is ideal to remove the dyes for six weeks instead of four.”
American celebrity favorite. Color Wow Root Color Up Powder (sold at Sephora), available in seven shades. “We find them in the collections of all the famous hairdressers, including mine,” confirms Dom Seeley, international creative director of Color Wow. “The good thing is that it doesn’t move or come off, even if you get your hair wet or play sports. The finish is very shiny and lasts until your next shampoo. You can also use it to create light highlights along the length or to fill in less dense areas on the scalp to give the impression of fuller roots. A time saver and money saver for those who are not yet ready to embrace their natural white hair.
