A study by scientists from the University of St Andrews claims that the color of our eyes matters. Even more so when you have to get dressed.
“You have beautiful eyes, you know.” This famous response by Jean Gabin to Michelle Morgan in the movie Harbor of the Mists (1938) today can be modified as follows. “You know, you have a nice style.” In 2023, eye color plays a very important role in how we are considered “well dressed”. This is confirmed by the research conducted by the researchers of the University of St. Andrews. As part of this, experts surveyed nearly 200 people to determine which colors suit them best, based on their skin, hair and eye tones. The result is clear, published in a journal Psychology of aesthetics, creativity and art , research shows that eye color is the main factor to consider when choosing the perfect outfit. It is enough to pull the rug out from under the stylists and image consultants who for decades have often emphasized that skin tone is an important element. However, it is “not important”, says Professor David Perrett.
Which shade to choose based on your eye color?
Information absorbed, now it’s time to change your wardrobe. It’s really legitimate to ask yourself before leaving the house which color to choose depending on the shade of our eyes. The study gives answers: people with gray or blue eyes are recommended to wear rather cool shades. Conversely, the darker our eyes, the more our wardrobe should be built around pieces in warm and comforting colors. From what we understand, blue eyes therefore wear beige trench coats, white t-shirts and gray cashmere better. To show off, people with darker eyes will shine in a little red dress, velvet pants, or an orange or red wool sweater. For the rest, it’s obviously just a matter of taste.
