Learning to know yourself, supporting your body’s evolution, learning how to change your state of mind to gain confidence… Our Beauty Special heroine Laura Smet’s philosophy of life inspires us. Confidences and advice from a bright actress.
Scorpio rising Scorpio! Expect a calm, control freak ready to pounce on you at the slightest opportunity. See you in the afternoon. Laura Smet arrives at 11:57 a.m., alive, no doubt, but above all, a brilliant young woman with rare kindness and courtesy who expresses herself with touching sincerity. And who, drinking his rooibos, is amused by our apprehension. The cat eyes of his father (Johnny Halliday), the disarming smile of his mother (Natalie Baye) and a light that belongs only to her. At the age of almost 40, the actress, who is starting her first feature film as a director, gives herself to the photo shoot just as easily. Naturally, with good humor and professionalism. Laura Smet is a gorgeous girl.
Madame Figaro. – When will we see you on the screens?
Laura Smet. – I have no news right away, because I am focused on making my film. There I am in the casting. Very exciting part and at the same time I’m nervous because I’m waiting for answers. And I’m not very comfortable waiting. I try to stay calm.
Impatient body.
I’m a worrier, not a pessimist at all, but let’s say simple. Fortunately, I’m also working with illustrator Emmanuel Lardie on the comics for the film, which is taking up a lot of time. A comic book movie is a lot of fun, and it leaves me wanting more.

Twenty years ago, you received the Romy-Schneider Award impatient bodies, By Javier Gianoli. What would you say to the young girl you were today?
Stay alert. To keep a cool head. My mother always told me something that makes perfect sense today. You must also have talent for this profession. » There are cycles, less easy moments. We must embrace this time and make it a positive thing for the future. Everyone goes through it. You have to know how to manage, don’t underestimate yourself, move forward, keep believing in it, do things that nourish you. What I would tell Laura before is to be careful. I was very young, very naive. Fifteen years in my head. I did not choose this profession. I wanted to be an artistic agent and it was Olivier Assayas who noticed me at Raymond Acquaviva without knowing who I was. I had the opportunity to shoot with great directors right away, and I really fell in love with this profession. Success came fast and hard. I thought it would last a lifetime. I would tell young Laura to enjoy everything, every moment, but to never take anything for granted. As in a couple, you need to surprise, not sleep into the routine. But apparently with me we are never bored.
How was filming this Beauty Special?
I’m not particularly sure, but I like taking pictures. When I shoot with a great photographer, I feel relaxed. It’s really a childish thing. When I was a little girl, I was passionate about the world of top models. I had a Claudia Schiffer Barbie. I know it sounds silly, but it made me dream. Shooting is a bit like a childhood dream come true for me. I know that we never see ourselves as we are, but I have complexes, for example, I don’t like my nose. Over time I learn to live with it. When I have good makeup, good lighting and good clothes, I feel really strong. Like movie clothes. If I arrived on set in my clothes, I wouldn’t be sure I could get into the skin of the character.
You talk about your worries, your complexes. However, you seem very calm…
At the age of 15 or 20, we don’t love each other. At 30, things start to get better. From the age of 35, a kind of fulfillment takes place. When you are lucky enough to live with someone who looks at you with love, that you are the most beautiful in the eyes of your child, that you are relaxed, it shows on your face. Features naturally relax. And then, I worked a lot on that topic. (Is laughing): I have been doing a lot of sports since I was 3 years old, especially horse riding. I practice meditation, yoga and pilates which helps me manage my anxiety. I practice yoga every day and Pilates at Rituel Studio in Paris (studio-rituel.paris). Meditation brings a very clear calmness to the face. When I haven’t slept well or am stressed, I meditate for half an hour with calming scents like palo santo, and immediately my features change. I also try to treat it with a body massage once a month.

The passage of time, another alarm?
Not much at the moment. Earlier I was watching Christy Turlington on Apple TV, who for me is one of the most beautiful women in the world, still magnificent at her age. Françoise Fabian is also, in my opinion, a rare beauty. I am not against cosmetic medicine or surgery. No way. Is usefull. It gives confidence. But when I see 18-year-old girls in my casting who have already been trained, it makes me sad. It’s not that they’re ugly, it’s that they look ten times bigger. Pity! But if in our 50s or 60s we feel the need to touch up, why not? It just shouldn’t be exaggerated. As in everything, by the way.

Nudity, torture or work?
I’ve never liked stripping in a movie, but if the scene is necessary and warranted, bye Eager bodies Or Carbon, it doesn’t bother me more than that. With borders.

Laura Smet
And how do you keep your complexion so glowing?
Actually, I am very careful. I haven’t smoked for six years. I found my hair, my skin, a kind of freshness and brightness that I had lost a little. I haven’t consumed alcohol at all for eleven years. I also met a wonderful woman, Sinara Begin. She’s a Brazilian who gives facials that oxygenate and tone the skin (sinarabeguin.com). He developed a method that combines quite a few techniques, including kobido. These are very quick maneuvers, not always pleasant, but very effective. She also does body massages against water retention. You can lose two to three kilograms in three sessions. And it’s completely natural. Also, I’m very moved by him because he comes from the favelas of Brazil and he’s made it on his own. I love success stories. He is my favorite. I always go there before the photo session. It restores confidence. The skin immediately becomes more radiant. But the best beauty advice is to drink plenty of water, sleep… and eat home-cooked meals. I cook for my family every night with products from producers I know. It’s important to cook for the people you love. And that calms me down. Also, I don’t eat a lot of gluten anymore, no more red meat. I’m a fan of Japanese food. I can go miles for matcha mochi.
