Queen Camilla walked on the arm of her husband, King Charles III, during a dinner with businessmen in London. For the event, she presented herself with a piece of jewelry that was especially dear to the eyes of the late Queen Elizabeth.

Tradition dictates that each time the crown is handed down, the new sovereign attends a large London ceremony hosted by business leaders at Mansion House. This Wednesday, October 18, the event was held in honor of Charles III, who succeeded his mother, Elizabeth II, who died on September 8, 2022, at Balmoral. The memory of the latter was also present throughout the evening. Camilla, the wife of the sovereign, did not fail to pay tribute to him by wearing her favorite tiara, the tiara of the girls of Great Britain and Ireland, for the first time since ascending to the throne.

As reported by the media royal stories, Elizabeth II used to wear this glittering headpiece, “which she herself received from her grandmother on the occasion of her marriage to Prince Philip (November 20, 1947, Editor’s Note)”. The collection, which has been passed down through generations, was first presented to Mary Tack by Lady Eva Greville, a member of the influential 19th-century women’s circle, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland, when she married King George V in 1893. The Garrard jewel is decorated with festoons and fleur-de-lyses, symbols of purity, spirituality and prosperity.

Queen Camilla has already appeared in expensive tiaras, as in November 2022, during a state banquet in honor of the President of the Republic of South Africa. But it’s the first time she’s worn this piece steeped in history, paired this Wednesday with earrings and a necklace also set with diamonds to match her black dress from the Bruce Oldfield label.

The evening was held in honor of the civic institutions of the City of London and the 111 Livery Companies, these ancient and modern trade guilds. King Charles III, 74, and Queen Camilla, 76, were able to enjoy dinner at the Mansion House, followed by a lavish reception.
