In the world of K-pop, for a young person to become an idol they must follow certain steps, and it is common for the process to begin by being recruited by a scout or by participating in auditions organized by large companies in the industry, as who, in this way, can become trainees and have the chance to debut in a group.
Still, these are not the only possible paths, as the trajectory of Hongjoongof ATEEZ. This is because the artist became a trainee in a curious way, as his dream became real through a letter sent to KQ Entertainment when he was 17 years old.
The curious beginning of ATEEZ’s Hongjoong’s career
The revelation came in an interview with the American radio DJ, Zach Sang (via Koreaboo), who was surprised by the group leader’s response when asking how the members had joined the company.
This happens, therefore, Hongjoong reported that the desire to work with the agency arose from his admiration for Block B, which was managed by Seven Seasons, a sub-label of KQ Entertainment. Still, the desire seemed distant, as at the time the company had no plans to produce a new group.
However, that didn’t stop him from showing how much he wanted to be part of that universe. For that, Hongjoong decided to write a letter to the company.
I heard that there was no plan to create a new idol group, a new K-Pop star, but I really like the senior group Block B. [Gostei] of their music and style, so I sent a letter to my now boss,” he recalled.
In the letter, he introduced himself and sent a sample so that the company could learn a little about his talent, and if interested, contact him so they could work together.
I [escrevi] that I’m Hongjoong and I write some songs, so please listen to this song and if you have any interest in me, contact me… I really want [trabalhar para sua] company and make some songs with you.”
As much as it was due to his initiative that the company discovered him and made him a trainee, he had to wait before he could fulfill his wish, as he received a response to the text about a year after sending it, as the The letter was only discovered when KQ Entertainment moved the company’s buildings.

Like this, Hongjoong became the first to join KQ Entertainment, having made his debut in 2018, when he became the leader of ATEEZ, a group that has seven more members in its lineup: Seonghwa, Yunho, Yeosang, San, Mingi, Wooyoung It is Jongho.
