The pair support England and Wales again in Marseille this weekend as part of the World Cup quarter-finals.

This Saturday, October 14, Prince William will take his place in the stands at the Velodrome in Marseille to support Wales in their Rugby World Cup quarter-final against Australia. But he will not be accompanied by his wife, Kate Middleton, who prefers to support the England team the next day. This official arrival was announced this Friday, October 13, by a royal expert and journalist Daily Mail: Rebecca English on social networks.

One day rivals

“The Prince and Princess of Wales will both be attending the #RugbyWorldCup quarter final this weekend. The Prince of Wales, Patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, will attend the Wales-Argentina match on Saturday. Meanwhile, for the patron princess of the rugby football union, it will be England against Fiji on Sunday,” the journalist wrote on his Twitter microblog yesterday.

But why are the couple splitting up for this sporting trip? The reason is simple: everyone has their favorite team. From February 2022, Kate Middleton is the godmother of rugby union football, a position previously held by her brother Prince Harry, who is now relieved of any official duties after leaving the royal family. Prince William, for his part, has taken on the role of patron of the Welsh Rugby Union since 2016, following instructions from his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II.

Sports lucky charm

Already last month, the couple went to France separately to watch the debut of their favorite teams in the competition. Their presence was a lucky charm for the athletes as England beat Argentina 27-10 and Wales cruised to a 32-26 win over Fiji.

Now in the quarterfinals, the two opposing teams are on their way to a historic final. Indeed, never before have two British teams reached the finals of this tournament together. We can imagine, then, how this prospect must have raised high expectations and provoked quite a bit of debate on the plane that took the royal couple to Marseille this weekend. The verdict on the way back to Britain on Sunday evening.
