Who killed Tupac? An eternal question that seems to have been answered. Las Vegas police on September 29 arrested 60-year-old former gang leader Dwayne Davis, also known as Keef D, on charges of murdering the rapper.
Correspondent.net recalled a case from 27 years ago.
How’s this
One of the most influential rap artists in history was killed in September 1996, he was 25 years old. Unknown persons fired from another car at the car where the musician and Marion Knight Jr. were located. (known as Shug), the founder and former CEO of the record company Death Row Records, where Tupac’s records were released. The rapper received multiple injuries and died in hospital six days later. Knight was hit by shrapnel and suffered only minor injuries. He is currently serving a 28-year prison sentence in California on a murder charge unrelated to the Shakur case.
New evidence
Dwayne Davis and three other people (who died in September 2023) have long been suspected of killing Shakur. Keef Dee was jailed near his home the day after a Clark County grand jury in Nevada returned an indictment against him. About two months ago, police searched Davis’ home in the nearby town of Henderson as part of an investigation into the case. Investigators seized several computers, a cell phone and hard drive, Vibe magazine, which contained a story about Shakur, several .40-caliber bullets, photographs and a copy of Davis’ memoirs.
The jury also voted to upgrade the murder charge to include a gang charge. If Davis is convicted, it could add an additional 20 years to his sentence.
Davis previously appeared as a witness in the Tupac murder case. In 2018, he confirmed that he was in the car where the shooting happened, but said that his nephew, Orlando Anderson, carried out the shooting. Tupac had a conflict with him, culminating in a fight at a casino shortly before the musician’s murder. Anderson was killed in 1998 – before that he had denied involvement in Shakur’s murder.
Davis previously admitted in interviews and in his memoirs, published in 2019, that he pulled the gun used to shoot Tupac’s car. While in the front passenger seat of the Cadillac, Keefe Dee said he put the gun in the back seat, where he said the shooting came from.
