Arriving hand-in-hand, bursts of laughter and knowing glances… A look back, in pictures, at the many displays of friendship between the first lady and the sovereign during Charles III and Camilla’s official visit to France.
They parted as good friends on Thursday, September 21, on the Elysee steps. Ahead of Queen Camilla and King Charles III’s departure for Bordeaux this Friday, as part of their three-day official visit to France, the sovereign and Brigitte Macron continued to show the extent of their complicity. Upon Camilla’s arrival, the first lady greeted her with a friendly kiss. During a banquet at the Palace of Versailles on Wednesday, September 20, the first lady even helped him put his Dior cape back on the event’s red carpet. A real return to grace for those who have had a period of family and media infamy, one because of his affair with King Charles III while he was married to Lady Diana, the second because of his relationship with a younger man.

A common passion
The following day, the two women appeared delighted to meet at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France (BNF) as part of the launch of the Franco-British Literary Prize. “Bridget Macron and I share a deep love of literature and a passion for promoting literacy,” the Queen said. The pair also shared a few laughs throughout the day, especially during a visit to the Saint-Denis Sports Association.
Charles III’s wife tried her hand at ping-pong, facing off against the first lady, before the two women won 19M, the arts and crafts center created by the house of Chanel, always as accomplices. A trip that sealed their bond, before Camilla went to Bordeaux to meet French and British soldiers as well as firefighters, then visited an organic vineyard.
