Being one of the most anticipated releases of the year, the series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” received new images this Monday, 18th, as well as an unprecedented animated poster printed by the protagonist, Percy Jackson, played by the actor Walker Scobel. Look!
The series, which premieres on Disney+ scheduled for December 20th, will adapt the events of the book “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”, which is the first volume of the author’s successful book saga Rick Riordan. Check out the trailer!
During a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rick revealed the real reason for creating the Percy Jackson universe, in addition to defending the diversity that fans can find in the series.
“[Meu filho] he had difficulties at school, due to dyslexia and ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), but he loved Greek mythology”, revealed the author. “As a teacher, I knew a lot about the subject. I loved teaching. So I started telling him stories about Greek myths, and when they were finished, I created a new Greek hero: a modern child named Percy Jackson who, like my son, had ADHD and dyslexia, and discovered that these were indicative of that he was a demigod.”
Riordan continues stating that “20 years after the book was released, it was important to look [a história de Percy Jackson] with new eyes and made sure that the story was speaking to all children, and that everyone could watch the series and see themselves in it. It’s inclusive enough that everyone can feel like they can be a hero—and, after all, that’s why I wrote the book. My son, due to learning differences, was feeling out of place and this was my way of saying that ‘everything is ok’. Difference is a strength. You’re going to be fine and you belong in this world.”
In addition to Walker Scobel as the protagonist, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” will also have in its cast names such as Leah Jeffries (Annabeth Chase), Aryan Simhadri (Grover Underwood), Charlie Bushnell (Luke Castellan), Dior Goodjohn (Clarisse La Rue), Virginia Kull (Sally, Percy’s mother), Jason Mantzoukas (Dionysus), Adam Copeland (Ares), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hermes), and much more.
