Last week, Disney announced that one of Pixar’s most recent releases, “Elements”, is finally scheduled to debut on the streaming service. Disney+: September 13th.
The animation, released at the beginning of this year, presents the Element City, inhabited by creatures from the elements of water, air, earth and fire, who live in harmony, but with one clear rule: the elements do not mix. Things change when Ember, a young woman from the fire element, and Wade, who is from the water element, become close and begin to see that things are not quite as they imagined. Remember the trailer!
To celebrate the arrival of “Elementos” on Disney+, RECREIO has separated 5 interesting facts about the animation that you need to know. Check out!
1. Caution
All Pixar animation is produced with great care by the team, to deliver a perfect experience to the public. However, in “Elementos”, the scene in which we see the first meeting between Gota and Faísca needed more attention from the scriptwriters, as explained by the voice actress Leah Lewis.
According to her, the greatest care was to ensure that they did not get closer. “In the beginning, you see why Fire and Water don’t get along very well. Too much is at stake for them to just interact — they could literally extinguish each other, and that’s a pretty big deal.”
2. Real inspiration
The film has great inspirations that emerged from the childhood of the director responsible, Peter Sohn. The plot of Brasa and Fagulha, Faísca’s parents, for example, was based on the story of the filmmaker’s parents, who are South Korean immigrants, and ended up settling in the Bronx, New York.
“I tried to capture the idea of people from other places coming together to create a life for themselves. That was the emotional hook for me, the fact that my parents came from somewhere else to create a better life for us,” Sohn said in an interview.
3. No shadows
As reported by Disney’s official website, Spark was animated with one less lighting effect. This is because the detail is exactly responsible for projecting the shadow and, in real life, fire does not have this capacity.
4. Thousands of layers
According to Disney, normally, an average Pixar character created digitally has around 4,000 controls — but this fact was very different in “Elements”. The director Peter Sohn stated that only Drop and Spark reached almost 10 thousand points: “There were so many layers of effects going on with these characters that they kept multiplying the challenges in every direction we went.”
5. First to return to theaters
“Elements” is also part of an important milestone for Pixar. This is because the film was the first to premiere in cinema after three years without features on the small screen, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Before that, productions such as “Soul” (2020), “Luca” (2021) and “Red: Crescer é uma Fera” (2022) were released only digitally, through Disney+ streaming.
