One of the greatest mysteries of Eiichiro Oda’s work is also addressed in “One Piece: The Series”; find out the answer!
Because it is a faithful adaptation to the work of Eiichiro Oda“One Piece: A Série”, presents not only the saga of the Straw Hat Band in search of fame, power and riches contained in the greatest and most sought after treasure in the world left by Gol D. Roger, but also addresses the mystery that lasted years in the pages: who are Monkey D. Luffy’s parents?
The answer does not appear in the eight episodes already released on Netflix, because, although the series presents Luffy’s grandfather, Vice Admiral of the Navy, Monkey D. Garp, proving that the boy had some contact with his biological family, there is no no mention of the country of the pirate in the conversations that the two exchange, as well as the presence of maternal and paternal figures of Luffy in the flashbacks.
Still, the final scenes of the first season suggest that some of the questioning will be clarified in the next season of the series. This is because, it is at this moment that the marine in charge of capturing pirates is introduced as they stop in Loguetown on their way to the Grand Line: Captain Smoker.
The insertion of the character suggests that the second season will introduce Loguetown and also who Luffy’s biological father figure is, since it is in the Loguetown arc of the manga that Luffy’s father, Monkey D. Dragon, makes his first appearance, and may be seen in chapter 100 of the manga and episode 52 of the anime.
It is necessary to remember that in Dragon’s debut in the pages, the connection between him and Luffy was unknown, as it is only in the Enies Lobby arc that Luffy discovers that he is the son of the leader of the Revolutionary Army, Monkey D. Dragon. Despite being shocking information for readers, Luffy reacts with indifference to knowing his father’s real identity in the manga.
In addition, as analyzed by the Screenrant portal, the fact that Dragon leads the Revolutionary Army suggests why he was not present in the creation of Luffy in the series. This happens because he commands the group of rebels whose objective is to overthrow the World Government, which makes him the most wanted man in the world.
As seen at the end of “One Piece: The Series”, on the opposite page of Luffy’s wanted poster in the newspaper read by Kaya, there is a report about the Revolutionary Army, which proves that Dragon is a great walking target, making its existence endangers Luffy. Thus, it would be even safer for Luffy to be under the protection of his vice-admiral grandfather.
As for Luffy’s mother, until the current moment of the manga, no information about her has been granted. Therefore, doubt is likely to remain in the Netflix series as well.
