Discover some hidden details and references in the Shrek movies that may have gone unnoticed
The film franchise “Shrek” was one of the great successes of the 2000s. The plot accompanies a swamp ogre who lives in a fairytale universe totally different from the one we see in Disney’s feature films, being more ironic and showing that not everything it’s perfect—even in the make-believe world.
In all productions it is possible to find some easter eggs, references and hidden jokes that not everyone noticed — even, some of them can change your point of view about the story. In this way, Recreio brought some of the details hidden throughout the four Shrek films. Check out!
1. DreamWorks Moon
“Shrek” is a DreamWorks production and, in the first scene of the feature, there is a reference to the studio. On the bathroom door where the ogre appears in the first moments of the story, there is a small crescent moon, which makes reference to the studio’s logo.
2. Recipe Book

Ever wonder what happened to the gentlemen who tried to save Fiona before Shrek did? The answer was in the movie all along!
At a certain point, when Shrek and Fiona are trying to leave the tower, it is possible to see in the corner that there is a giant recipe book, open to a page where it was taught how to cook gentlemen. It is likely that Dragoa was the one who made this “dish”, due to the size of the book and the cauldron that is in the same scene.
3. Reference to Matrix

In the part where Fiona confronts Robin Hood and his men, there is a moment where the scene freezes and the camera rotates 180º, before she finishes the movement. This is a reference to the famous fight scene from “The Matrix”, a movie released in 1999.
4. Brothers Grimm

Most of the fairy tales we know were created by the Brothers Grimm. Thus, in one of the Shrek films, a reference to the duo would be mandatory, since the entire franchise is a great parody of these stories.
In a scene from “Shrek 2”, the Fairy Godmother says to Shrek, “In the name of Grimm, what are you doing here?” and this ends up being the reference to the brothers, as if they were the gods of this entire universe.
5. The Poisoned or Happy Apple?

Still in “Shrek 2”, we know the tavern A Maçã Poisonada, a place frequented by the villains who live in So Far Away. What many haven’t noticed is that in “Shrek Forever After” the place is totally different.
At the beginning of the fourth film in the franchise, we follow the birthday party of Shrek and Fiona’s triplets, which takes place in the same tavern as the second film. However, the place is no longer aimed at villains and is called A Maçã Feliz, also changing its appearance.
